The University of Toronto Business Plan Competition (UTBPC)
is a rewarding educational program designed to foster the
entrepreneurial spirit among undergraduate students across all Canadian universities, as well as to help promote the creation of new ventures.
The UTBPC is managed by the University of Toronto Enterprise
Creation Association and Faculty advisors from Joseph L. Rotman
School of Management. Open to all undergraduate students within Toronto community, the UTBPC is uniquely positioned to
achieve the goal of educating and encouraging future entrepreneurs.
During this six month long competition and intense educational experience, students receive feedback from experts, attend workshops, meet with mentors and compete before a panel of Venture Capitalists and other experts for top prizes to propel the launch of the winning business. By tying together young and budding ideas with the real world setting, the UTBPC energizes and leverages students in an extraordinary opportunity to forge business development skills.
The competition consists of three phases. In Phase I,
participants will attend the workshops held by exceptional
entrepreneurs and faculty members from the Joseph L. Rotman
School of Management. This will acquaint teams with the
real-world business construct and the essential business skills to
increase their relating business competence and the quality of their
business plans. The five best business plans will be selected in
Phase II, and will vie for the first prize in the Phase III.
The five finalists will present their business plans in front of a group of prestigious industry leaders, who will determine the winner of the competition. The winning team will be granted a $10,000 cash award for having the most inspiring and creative business plan.
